Decoding Sustainability
In an era where trends change quicker than you can spell ‘fast fashion’ it's crucial that we pause and reflect on the economic and environmental cost of our fashion choices.
The glamour of the fashion industry comes with a heavy price. Carbon emissions and textile waste are only contributing to mounds. A Human Environment report says that 10% of the global carbon emission comes from fashion industry alone. The constant thirst for new trends and ‘wear and toss ' mentality is alarming. As consumers we must educate ourselves of fashion's environmental impact and choose quality over quantity by resisting the fast fashion frenzy. We must support brands that are waking up to the need for realizing ethical practices, embracing sustainable materials like cotton, Tencel and recycled polyester and also upcycle and support secondhand shopping, so that we breathe life into garments and eventually slow down the demand for new production ability.
